Studio 1458 and changing to 900p LCD

This is a bit of a technical question.  Hopefully someone has some knowledge of this.

I have a Studio 1458 with the 768p LCD.  There was also a 900p option (1600x900), but is impossible to find one with this display.

I purchased the exact LG panel (1600x900, HD+) that Dell uses, to put in my Studio 1458.

What else do I need to use this panel?  A different data cable?  Is the system board different?  (I have the ATI 5450 discrete graphics).

I tried changing the panel only, and that did not work, so there must be something else needed.

Advice welcomed!

Thanks.

Are you absolutely certain the panel is the same one Dell uses?  The last three digits of the display model are the revision number - and that DOES matter.

You may need a new display cable, yes.

I'm about 90% sure it's the same panel.  I know the panel Dell uses for the 768p and the part number, and when I did have the Studio 1458 with the 900p display, I do recall it was an LG panel.  The 900p LG panel that I bought was advertised for the 1458 and is practically the same part number as the 768p.  Just a couple of digits difference (not that that means anything).

When I first put the 900p panel in my Studio 1458 and turned it on, I got a display, but where there was supposed to be black, was purple instead.  After a couple more power-on's, ultimately I got NO display at all.  Even putting the old panel back in, there was no display.  :(   I got everything fixed, and am back to a working Studio 1458 with 768p display, but not sure if my 900p panel is now bad, or what!

These are LED backlit, so there is only one cable to the panel, and the 768p and 900p panels are identical in appearance and connection.  On the labels, one says HD and the other says HD+.

Someone had said that the data cable for the 768p panel has half the pins of the 900p.  Any truth to that?

It very well could be - the data cables are often different even with panels of the same resolution from different manufacturers.

I was wondering about doing the same thing with my Studio 1458 (mine has integrated graphics)...  I was wondering whether or not if the 900p LCD has a better black level and viewing angles... my 768p panel (InnoLux BT140GW01) is awful in that respect, and that makes watching videos while laying down with the machine on my chest almost impossible without inverted colors and poor contrast.
