USB 3.0 ports not working Dell Inspiron N5110

I have purchased a USB 3.0 hard drive, but it only works in my USB 2.0 port.
I found what looks to be the solution in a previous thread linked below, however the link to one of the drivers in the thread no longer works.

I have tried using the "Dell Driver Analyze Utility", but when I get to the stage where I need to run the "Dell System Detect" application I get an error.

I can't think of what to do now so I hope someone who knows more than myself can lend me a hand.

Hi Kurt594,

You may uninstall and re-install USB Root Hubs by following the steps below:

  • Click on “Start” and right click on “Computer”.
  • Click on “Manage”.
  • Click on “Device Manager”.
  • Expand ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers’
  • From the list, look for ‘USB Root Hub’
  • Right click, choose ‘Uninstall’, choose ‘Ok’
  • Uninstall all ‘USB Root Hub’ listed
  • Wait for all the drivers to get uninstalled
  • Restarted the computer
  • Restarting the computer will install ‘USB Root Hub’s automatically on the computer.

Once done, try using your computer. If issue persists, you may download and install chipset drivers on your computer by from the links below:

  1. Chipset: http://dell.to/15wLWjk
  2. USB 3.0 driver: http://dell.to/XprBL2
  3. Intel Management Engine Interface: http://dell.to/YTODFu
  4. Realtek Card Reader driver: http://dell.to/Zqlp1Z

Please share the findings.
