Upgrade of RAM up to 8 GB - DELL Vostro 3700

Hi everybody!

I decided to upgrade my DELL Vostro 3700 with 4 Gb RAM up to 8. Is it feasible and technically possible to have 2 memory sticks 4 Gb each?

I read the manual, it is set that i can use up to 4 GB in each slot... A year ago i heard that DELL support does not recommend  to have in more that 2 Gb in each slot... WHO KNOWS?

Hi Pholiant,

Dell Vostro 3700 has 2 SODIMM slots. The system accepts a memory capacity ranging from 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB. The memory type accepted is DDR3 1066 MHz or DDR3 1333 MHz SODIMM only. The computer supports a maximum of 8GB of memory when installed with two 4GB DIMMs.

Hi Pholiant,

The 8GB memory will increase the performance on your computer.

Thank you, Ravi! will my laptop be as stable with 8 GB on board as with 4? The thing is that i need more RAM working with some photo programs. SO you recommend to have 8?

I also have a question - my Dell Vostro shows that there are currently two RAM sets made from 2GB DDR3 1066MHz. Question is - can I replace them both with 1333MHz 4GB RAMs? Will my laptop accept them?

I also wanted an answer to this, so I phoned Dell, but because I bought my laptop off my employer they would not give me the information ! " it's against the law"

If I can use the faster RAM, I would buy it from Dell anyway !

Hello,

I have 2 Kingston ValueRAM SODIMM 1,5v CL9 pc3-10600 1333Mhz 4Gb each, but my dell Vostro 3700 don't start correctly.

At windows starts show bluescreen or stops and freeze. On onboard test show error at memory step.

The memory it's ok.

I read someone talking about a Crucial memory, but I dont know if is trade problem because is exactly the same model the ram I have working fine.

The motherboard recognice always (old memory and newone) as 1066Mhz.

I don't knwo what to do.

Thankyou!

What CPU do you have?  On systems of this vintage, only i7 CPUs will run RAM at 1333 -- i5 and i3 CPUs are locked to 1066 MHz.

There could be any one of a number of things - if the RAM is higher density than the system supports, it may cause incompatibility.  Also, Value RAM isn't a consistent product -- it's whatever Kingston can buy cheapest at any time point.  You may want to consider trying higher quality RAM (Kingston makes RAM tested for brand-name systems like Dell -- the part numbers will begin with KTD).  These are of higher quality than the low-cost "value" RAM which is designed to be as inexpensive as possible.

I have a i5, but the RAM came originally is 1333Mhz. I prefer buy a 1333Mhz because probably I'll change CPU soon to i7.
I tried another RAM, a G.Skill SO-Dimm DDR3 - DDR3L 1333 PC3-10666 4GB CL9, and I have the same problem.
There are some RAM that promise dell vostro compatibility, like "Offtek" or "Crucial"...
Do you recommend buy a 1066Mhz RAM and forget to change CPU to i7?? Or can I try a Kingstom KDT... at 1333Mhz??

Thankyou Very much!!
