Upgrading internal memory

Can anybody help me out please?

I purchased a memory upgrade and am wondering if its usefull to add more internal memory

I had 2x 128Mb in my Lattitude C640 with pentium 4 m processor

I have upgraded to 1x 128Mb en 1x 512Mb

No I want tot upgrade tot the maximum of 2x 512Mb

Replace the 128M module with a PC2100 or PC2700 DDR 512M module.

Yes clear.

But wil it make a difference in performance?  Or will the performance hardly improve? In the last situation it's a waist of money!

Can you help me out with this question?

:^/ It depends upon what you use your computer for.  Simple e-mail and word processing don't use that much RAM, though heavy number-crunching applications like 3D modeling/rendering software or video games will happily use all the RAM you've got.

 

Also, later versions of Windows will use more memory than earlier ones.  One way to tell is to check the systems Virtual Memory.  If your system is using lots of Virtual Memory, or asks to increase the size of the paging file, you'll benefit from more real RAM.  If your Virtual Memory hardly gets used, you won't see that much benefit from upgrading.
