XPS m1330 running vista home premium after welcome/login startup screen goes black
i own a xps m1330 laptop that runs vista home premium and in the past week when it starts up most of the times it checks the disk then it goes to the login screen. i type in my password and it shows the welcome like normal. after a little while it goes from the welcome screen to a black screen with only the pointer although a couple times it went through to my desktop and then stopped working. what should i do, what is wrong with the computer

A good suspect is a dying video chip - start with the Dell diagnostics. On this model, the nVidia chip is known to go bad - Dell has added a year of warranty coverage on the video chip (above and beyond whichever warranty you bought at the time of purchase).
F12 at powerup to get to the diagnostic menu.
