how to disable raid for inspiron 15r?

Hello,

Last Saturday I've tried to install a Linux OS on the Dell Inspiron 15R SE I own.

When I tried to boot from a Ubuntu flash drive, it did not recognized any hard drive on the installation process.

Since I'm a experienced Slackware Linux user, I've booted from a USB key following a procedure I've performed several times, created the partition on the hard drive and installed it. But, whenever the installed ask for what partitions to be available it listed several /dev/md***** which are commonly associated to RAID partitions. Also, when I was setting up the SWAP area, it offered two options, one on the harddrive and another a /dev/md**** which led me to believe the "natural" RAID... But I haven't found anything RAID related on the BIOS. Is there a workaround?

Thanks in advance!

Does the system have an mSATA drive?

If it does, it was likely set up with the Intel rapid storage manager.

Yes, it can be - you should be able to set the mode for it in BIOS setup.

Look under "Intel Rapid Start Technology" under Advanced - disable that.

Yes, it does have a mSATA drive! Can it be defined as just another drive?

I don't mind reinstalling the OS'es as long as it works! :)

In BIOS, on the Advance menu there's an item called

Intel(R) Rapid Start Technology

But it's blacked out. I can't access it...

BIOS version is A04, but it was the same with prior BIOS version, guess it was A01.

Also, there's an item called

USB Wake Support

that's set to and when switched to makes the "Intel Rapid Start Technology" disappear from the list.

Any thoughts?

I actually found out the reason this is so!

I have to run ON Windows the intel Rapid Start Technology application.

BUT to run it, I need to install it.

AND when I try to install it, it always pops up an error that says:

"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements to use this software".

What now?

I just reinstalled the chipset driver once again rebooted and tried to install the intel Rapid Start Technology application.

I guess it's related to having the BIOS option SATA Operation defined as Intel Smart Response Technology, right? I have it set as AHCI.

Have you installed the chipset driver?
