sigmatel driver R171789.exe problem inspiron 9400

I recently downloaded and installed sigmatel audio driver (R171789.exe) driver on my inspiron 9400 (running Windows XP SP3) and it worked good or so I thought, but when I tried to play an audio CD, I noticed there was crackling and hissing in the playback, so I tried to uninstall this driver and reinstall the driver (R122161.exe) I originally had running on  my notebook, but I could not fix this problem.

 

I wanted the new driver because it had the stereo mix option for recording and the old driver didn't, ideally I would want to have everything work, but for now I'd settle on going back to how the original sound driver was working

 

Any ideas on what I can do to get it working again.
