Any of the Core 2 Duos up to but not including the new Montevina CPUs (1066 MHz FSB) should work.

Hi, I have a dell 1525 with a 1.8 celeron. I bought a intel core 2 duo T6400 2.0 and it works fine. It is much faster.Got cpu of ebay for 50.00 and it the best thing I have ever done.

Hi, I also want to upgrade Inspiron 1525 processor.

Currently, it contains Intel Celeron CPU 540 1.86GHz on the Main Board - Mobile Intel PM965/GM965/GL960 Express Processor

If can suggest me the best processor for this laptop from the following list ASAP (in terms of compatibility, performance, temperature, battery usage):

1. Intel® Core™2 Duo Mobile Processor T5800

2. Intel® Core™2 Duo Mobile Processor T5750

3. Intel® Core™2 Duo Mobile Processor T9300

4. Intel® Core™2 Duo Mobile Processor T9500

I will be very grateful. Thank you.

Any of those will work - the T9300 and T9500 are overkill for the 1525, akin to putting a V8 engine in a Hyundai Accent.

All that will happen is that the performance bottleneck will shift to the video chipset, which you cannot upgrade.

I have the same computer and bought the same core 2 duo T6400 and I can't get it to work. I install it, turn on the CPU and only 2 lights come on nothing else happens (power light & number lock). I am having to take it out and put the old 1.86 back in so it works :( any suggestions?

On the same question :

I have a working 1525 with Celeron 540 1.8ghz CPU.

I also have a number of other non-working DELL's - including a Latitude D620 with a Core2Duo T7400 CPU.

Question - Can I replace the Celeron in the 1525 with the T7400 from the Latitude ? - have seen some threads suggesting yes, others suggesting no.

Bios Must be updated BEFORE changing cpu.

Intel® Pentium Dual Core Processor T2390 (1.86Ghz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache)

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.10 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 cache)

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 cache)

T9300 has the most bang for you buck

right now can be had for 30-35$

I am impressed with your upgrade thinking and application, 4gig memory and SSD are excellent with T9300 processor. But, as I have been told, we are putting V8's into Fiats. The weakness now becomes the motherboard chipset that can not keep up with all the hardware, primarily video. Sadly the chipset is not replaceable and firmware not available. Still, I am impressed with the speed during other functions of the OS. I like this laptop and will upgrade RAM from 2 gig to 4 and watch SSD drives drop in price to match my WestDig 500 gig. I did change the fan and thermal heat transfer parts for sure. I did upgrade the installed wifi card to an N capable card  but have found that some current USB wifi N are faster than available cards. Simple setup, but I'm running out of USB ports (Microsoft scalp mouse, WIFI and Bluetooth adapters).  I purchased a TechNet 2 port USB 3.0 card for the SIM slot that has faster speed, works great. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, 32bit but with this processor I would like to try Windows 7 64 bit as it can handle it. We'll see. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
