symapi_db.bin on my unix sever is out of sync
My EMC Sync & split scripts fails regularly, beacuse of an out of sync symapi_db.bin file. Everytime i need to run a symcfg discover to update the db file.
Can anybody tell me how often the symapi_db.bin gets updated ? Is the ECC agent on the box repsonsile for this ? If thats the case how does the ECC agent keep this file updated (any schedule) ?

Here you can see messages from symapi log of an host running S.E. 6.4.x. You can find symapi logs in /var/symapi/log directory ..
As you may notice, symcli issue a discover at different times, all day long...
You also ask about ECC .. ECC do trigger an automated discovery of the symmetrix every night. It's a policy you can configure in ECC (it's a DCP, Data collection policy). Your host however needs to have a Symmetrix agent if you want ECC to trigger the discover. Maybe you already know.. but worth mentioning that every host have its own symapi_db.bin file and that there isn't an ECC policy that triggers the update of any available symapi_db.bin file.
Are you running Symmetrix agent on the host that's showing the strange behaviour ??

Since I don't remember having read such a suggestion in symcli manuals or in BC/DR trainings, I supposed there was a primus explaining this ..
AFAIK recent versions shouldn't need the "symcfg discover" anymore.

I also like to state, that running a lot of symcfg discover's is not too kind on the storapid daemon.
So if you have several scripts running TF commands, I advice just to put the symcfg discover in the first script.
This should do the trick and save you time messing around and restarting the storapid every once in a while.
Hope this helps.
Maxim.
