64 GB of memory is more than enough for most users.  You will have to be a super high end enthusiast to want to install 128 GB in this pc.

ssd spec:  M.2 2230/2280 solid-state drive

PCIe Gen3.0x4 NVMe, up to 32 Gbps

Up to 1 TB

Besides the on board M.2 slot, you may also add a M.2 to PCIe3.0x4 adapter for a second NVMe or Sata SSD installed in the PCIex4 slot.

According to Dell’s specification page 14, you can run 16gx4=64g ram. However, Intel’s spec indicates 128g is the hard limit to 9th gen CPUs (also hard limit on Windows 10 Home)

Fos SSD, there is one M2 port and three SATA ports. Literally you can run 4 SSDs at the same time without other expansion card

I was wondering if you can say the same with my Dell Inspiron 7577 laptop.

It has the following specs with the same motherboard as stated above:

Table 12. Storage speci€cations
Interface
• SATA 6 Gbps
• PCIe/NVMe
Hard drive One 2.5-inch drive (SATA)
Solid-state drive (SSD) One M.2 drive (SATA or PCIe/NVMe)
Capacity

Thanks for the information !!!
This is for the 9 th generation of Intel CPU (LGA1151 board)
Did the same information exist for the 10 th generation (LGA1200) ?

Also I did not see if is possible to have 4 x 8Gb memory (quite funny you can put 2 x 8Gb and 4 x 16Gb, but no specification about 4 x 8Gb).

Hello,

The specs say :

● 8 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (1 x 8 GB)
● 16 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (2 x 8 GB)
● 32 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (2 x 16 GB)
● 64 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (4 x 16 GB)

But is it possible to have 16*2 + 1*8?

I would like to by a pair of 16GB without losing the original 8GB.

Thanks for your help.

@Goma - Dell hasn't tested this model with 2x16+ 1x8 (40GB) of RAM. Doesn't mean it won't work but you won't know unless you try.

Even if it does work, RAM probably won't run in dual-channel mode which is faster and more efficient than single-channel mode. Dual-channel requires a matched pair of modules in RAM slots with same color retention clips. In your case, one slot will be empty.

And since 48 GB also isn't listed as a supported config, 2x16GB + 2x8GB also may or not work.

Won't hurt to test 2x16 + 1x8. Worst that happens, PC won't boot or just crashes frequently.

I am wondering what cooling fans I could install (replace) to keep things cooler and more quiet. Another question is...can I upgrade the WIFI card?

@TorbenLaux  - Lots of threads about upgrading the cooling in the G5 5090 so have a look at those.

Yes, you can upgrade the WiFi card.  You need an internal WiFi card that plugs into the M.2 2230 slot on the motherboard. If you have WiFi 802.11a/b/g now, you could upgrade to a card that supports:

  • Wi-Fi 5 (WiFi 802.11ac)
  • Wi-Fi 6 (WiFi 802.11ax)

Alternatively, you could get an external USB>WiFi dongle so you don't have remove/replace the existing internal WiFi card. All you'd have to do is plug in a USB dongle, load its driver (if any) and disable the internal WiFi card in Device Manager.

Either way, you need a router that supports whichever version of WiFi the new internal card or WiFi dongle supports.

@stelch - The G5 5090 specs say it supports PCI-e "up to Gen 3.0".

Doesn't mean a PCI-e 4.0 SSD won't work, but you won't get the extra speed with the G5 5090 that PCI-e 4 supports...
