Dell Inspiron 3650 to DisplayPort

Hi.
Hoping someone can help.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3650
Graphics card - GeForce GT 730 - DVI-D / HDMI / VGA
https://www.dell.com/support/home/ng/en/ngbsdt1/product-support/product/inspiron-3650-desktop/overview

I have 2 Dell U2312HM Monitors
DVI-D / DisplayPort / VGA
https://www.dell.com/ng/business/p/dell-u2312h/pd

My question is - what's the best way to connect the Dell Inspiron 3650 to the two DisplayPort connections on the monitors?

Dual Display port connections for 5k resolution 5120x2880 require specific GPU.

GT730 is not even 4k resolution 3840x2160 capable so this is not really an option.

4k and 30hz is possible with GT1030 and single display port connection.

You will need a P2000 to use dual Display port 5k.

This card would also require upgrade to power supply due to the internal power supply being too small for a 75W or more card.

  • Manufacturer part VCQP2000-PB
  • Dell part A9592275

Just as a follow up to the above - in work I have an
Dell Latitude 5480
https://www.dell.com/support/home/ng/en/ngbsdt1/product-support/product/latitude-14-5480-laptop/overview
connected to a
Dell Universal Dock - D6000
https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-universal-dock-d6000/apd/452-bcyt/pc-accessories

And I'm debating buying a Dell Universal Dock - D6000 for home.
My question is, could I connect the the Dock to the Dell Inspiron 3650 desktop? (via the USB3 port on the front of the desktop)
Or are the docks only for laptops?

Hi Speedstep.

Many thanks for the reply, that's a fantastic amount of information and it is appreciated.

I'm afraid that's all out of my price range, and I'm not 100% confident upgrading power supplies... I'm just after dual DisplayPort connection (So as to free up the DVI-D ports on my monitors for a 2nd desktop) and I'm not fussed on the resolution, so long as it doesn't drop below the 1290 x 1080 current settings I get with DVI-D.

Would there be a mid level graphics card with 2x DisplayPort (preferably that will run with my current desktop set-up) that you would recommend?
The most this PC will be doing is Adobe Photoshop work - nothing too extreme.

tell why needing 2 screens, what modes do you plan to use with 2 screens.????

now we know its not for 4k or gaming.

all we know now is photoshop, use.

in most cases any 2 port DP card will work  if it fits (phonically, LxWx H. )

and not gaming , you don't need some $300 GPU card, and that opens the door to vast cards, with 2x DP.

that tilt open case I see has lots of room for just about any card,  see that yet?

and at best you have the 240watt PSU, so any below 75watt card will work (vast cards exist like that and USED near endless choices)

even mighty $10 cards sold in ebay used,  why not buy one plug it in and end the worry.

even my 790 has K2000 card (call it business grade, no gaming but is not junk and sold with vast DELLs new)

when you get here, (seen on wiki) what you set here, may affect what  applications work right or not.

Select a display option. In the drop-down menu, click one of the following options depending on your preferences:
  • Extend these displays (recommended) — Uses the second monitor as an extension of your first monitor.
  • Duplicate these displays — Displays the first monitor's contents on the second monitor.
  • Show only on 1 — Shows content only on the first monitor.
  • Show only on 2 — Shows content only on the second monitor.

You can do Dual display port with what you have but again its expensive hardware.  Creates a stretched desktop with a maximum resolution of 5760x1080 (3x 1920x1080) across three displays or 3840x1200 (2x1920x1200) across two

Thank you both. I'm going to look at getting a NVIDIA graphics card with 2x DisplayPort out.
Appreciate the replies and advice.
