Older dell model: Enable Realtek on startup

Newer model : Enable wave max on startup

A reboot on both cases.

For some reason recent windows updates have been changing my default speaker and mic selections. If it doesn't work right away, double check you have the right mic and audio output selected.. Try rear audio and front audio ports.

And in Waves MaxxAudio, sometimes the headphone selection gets switched or muted. If you checked that, and maybe device manager with no error icons, then maybe try the windows audio troubleshooter in settings, or uninstall and re-install waves maxxaudio program?

Devices are not "detected" when the OEM driver isn't installed.  Older models use soundmax analog devices driver, newer realtek driver may need to be deinstalled and reinstalled due to windows update breaking the driver.  Same is true for bluetooth and other drivers like INTEL Graphics which get disabled by security and windows updates.

Try out an External Jack, sometime it's an issue of 3.2mm or 3.0mm jack, which can be fixed by using external jack.
