Inspiron 3671, GPU maximum size (length)

Hello,

I bought a refurbished Inspiron 3671 and just replaced the 290w PSU with a Dell 365w (7VK45) to be able to put in a video card.

According to documentation, one 3671 model was shipped out with the 365w PSU and a GTX 1650 (page 13 of this document https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/inspiron-3671-desktop_users-guide_en-us.pdf)

So my question is, what is the maximum length of the video card that I can put in? What does "short" mean? I see that I can put in a full height card, but I'm stumped on the length.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

The case is 294 mm deep from front to back (which includes plastic front bezel thickness).  by gross estimate the metal chassis front to back is 290 mm, which would be the top limit of a card length.  170 mm long card should be okay.

Thanks for your reply and the explanation! I know it may seem obvious to some, but I wasn't sure if having the card go over a certain length may interfer with anything else.

165 mm at the line here. So if I had a 170mm card I guess that would be fine?

if you look at the case opened a discrete gpu can in theory span all the way from extension slot opening to the front edge of motherboard or close to front chassis metal case. https://topics-cdn.dell.com/Inspiron-3671-Service-Manual/images/GUID-0E925388-5BC8-4ADD-84B4-F18B0AC2101C-low.jpg

If you look at motherboard diagram there is nothing on board that in the way of a long card.

Dimensions for 3671:

Height 374 mm (14.71")

Depth 294 mm (11.57")

Width 160 mm (6.3")

365W unit is optional.

290W is the default stock power supply..

Non dell cards will require secure boot off in bios

8CCF1  is the GT1030 from dell

1050 requires the optional 365w power supply because its a 75W card and you only have 290W power supply.

If you do not want to upgrade power supply the ONLY one that you can use is GT1030.

For Non Dell video cards WILL HAVE to turn SECURE BOOT OFF.  When installing an after-market graphics card into a Windows PC with UEFI secure boot enabled, the system may not boot.  This is true for ANY PC not just Dell.

Dell OEM full height but short PCI-E video cards work

Regular EPS12v power supply can be used but requires adapter and modification of power supply mounting or housing the power supply OUTSIDE the case because the fan vents are upside down.  Its just easier to do this with a dell power supply.

The CAB359 from Moddiy has been tested and works fine with 3650 and 3670.  Optiplex 3020 9020, Precision T1700, Power Edge T20 also use the same thing. There is also a guy who made his own adapter from scratch.
