Inspiron 5675, Ryzen 2 CPU compatible?

Hello,

I was wondering if the BIOS for this desktop allows you to upgrade to Ryzen 2? Mine has the A10-9700 so I want the performance boost.

No the stock cooler for a 1700 is a wraith spire with 95 watt tdp where as a 2700 x has a 105 watt tdp with the recommend a 125 watt tdp plus cooler. Every rysen retail cooler  has a tdp profile higher then the. CPU  to give it room for the xfr automover clocking bat the CPU and chipset and. The current Dell. 5675 only commingled with x370 chipset and not x470 yeah far as I know

The Dell website does now show Ryzen 2 PC.s 3 diff models, Online posts show the 2000 series chips are backward compatable with the older 300 boards but it is stated that it will probably require bios update from motherboard mfg.

So has anyone tried installing a 2700X in the 5675 yet?

I'm itching to buy one, but I have yet to read about anyone trying it so far.

I tried to install 2700X but it doesn't boot up. I will wait for BIOS update.

@nyr

That's disappointing, although not completely unexpected. Thanks for letting me know.

the motherboards in the 5676 are the same part numbers as the boards in the 5675 as far as I know. Would a 5676 bios therefore work for a 5675? We know the 5676 works with ryzen 2 out of the box.

I was noticing the same thing after looking at the service manual PDF's for the 5675 and 5676.  The service manual for the 5676 shows a detailed picture of the system board, and it's exactly the same system board that is in my 5675.  There is a "RED SKULL BRISTOL" board shown for the 5675 and a "RED SKULL SUMMIT" for the 5676 and my 5675 is the SUMMIT.

The next thing for some brave soul to try is to flash the 5675 with a 5676 BIOS (if it will allow it).

I wonder if a Ryzen 5 1400 will work with the 5676 BIOS if it does successfully flash?  I have that lowly Ryzen now, but would like to go 2-series (2700 or 2700X).

So I am raging right about now. Why is Dell still selling Bristol Ridge motherboards they do not plan on updating. I checked around and going back to February AMD made everyone aware that you would need a bios update to run Ryden 2700x on a pre 470 series motherboard. Dell appears to be telling people with Bristol Ridge boards they are out of luck although AMD is specifically stating that AM4 boards should support it with a bios update. Why is dell not releasing a bios update? If no bios update by the end of the year then this will be the last time I ever go near a Dell.

Hi, It's all about profit.....making more money. Dell released the Inspiron 5676 this past June, I do not believe they will ever release a BIOS update to support 2nd gen Ryzens in an Inspiron 5675. I have a 5675 and love it! The Best we can do is either a RYZEN7 1800X, 1700x, or my favorite the 1700. Dell has always done this, they are here to make money, they do that by releasing new models. I'm not a fan of this either but that is how its always been with Dell.

If anyone is tempted to try flashing the Inspiron 5676 BIOS on to a 5675, just say no. It doesn't work and will brick your desktop. As in unbootable, and I was unable to get the BIOS recovery to work. Not all is lost, as I was intending to migrate anyway if the BIOS wasn't upgradeable. I've transferred the RAM, CPU and storage to a new B450 motherboard and chassis, and can now overclock. So life is good again...

In case you didn't get the gist of the replies here asking basically the same thing, the 5675 does NOT work with any of the Ryzen 2xxx series.  Only the Ryzen 1xxx series.  This, despite the fact that the system board in most 5675's is the same system board in the 5676 which DOES support Ryzen 2xxx CPU's.

So, to answer your question, NO.
