Inspiron 580, Memory upgrade, issues

My parents have an Inspiron 580 Desktop with 4GB (1GBx4) of DDR3L memory. I tried to upgrade the memory to with 8GB (4GBx2) of Crucial DDR3 memory but after putting in the new memory, the computer stays stuck on the Dell bootup logo. I've tried all configurations recommended in the manual but nothing worked. When I tried just one stick (4GB), the computer would cycle through booting and shutting down without ever getting to Windows. The memory should be compatible so I'm not sure what the issue could be. Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with ePSA and i'm not able to enter Bios as the machine just freezes on the dell logo.  The Bios F2 and setup F12 options are displayed on the screen along with the dell logo but hitting those button does nothing.

Also, the memory is good.  I tested it on a separate desktop to make sure.

Edit:  Googled ePSA and its the same situation as the BIOS.  Not able to enter ePSA mode using F12.

Does the new memory appear in BIOS config?

Does the machine pass ePSA Diagnostics?

1. That (being unable to BIOS-Post or Initialize) indicates a hardware problem or major incompatibility.

2. good troubleshooting

I suggest you call crucial.com if these DIMMs were listed as "guaranteed compatible" for this exact machine.

Tesla, thank you for the responses.  I bought the memory from Craigslist.  I thought the only spec that mattered would be the DDR3, 240 pin.  What spec(s) could render the memory incompatible?

Unknown about that memory.

Below are the tested/validated 4GB DDR3, 1066MHz or 1333MHz, Unbuffered, Non-ECC, 1.5v, 240 pin memory sticks =

What is the memory limit per slot?  Is it 2GB or 4GB?

I think the overall limit for the system is 8GB.

I use Samsung brand memory chips on my relative's Dell Inspiron 580 desktop PC (2Gb DDR3 1333Mhz M378B5773DH0-CH9 - have 4 of them) and they are working well.

The limitation is LOW Density, Un Buffered, Non Registered, NON ECC.

QUAD RANK ram does not work at all.
