Dell Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming Maximum RAM Speed

I'd like to upgrade my RAM in my Dell Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming laptop but I can't find what speed is the maximum possible speed of RAM.

Current build:

Intel Core i5-7300HQ

Nvida GTX 1050

1x8 GB of DDR4 2400

1 TB HDD + 256 SSD

There is no advantage to faster RAM -- this system has no overclocking settings, and since the RAM speed is controlled by the CPU, anything faster than what's in the system now will simply downclock to match the memory controller -- and since the CPU isn't upgradable, neither is the memory speed.

Welcome to the Dell Community @OPCG_SpartanGolf6

Your laptop specs and CPU specs say DDR4-2400 MHz

Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Setup and Specifications:

https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/inspiron-15-7567-laptop_setup-guide_en-us.pdf

Intel® Core™ i5-7300HQ Processor:

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/97456/intel-core-i5-7300hq-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-50-ghz.html

But Crucial has some DDR4-2666MHz.

If you plan on "Overclocking" the memory go for the DDR4-2666 MHz if not use the  DDR4-2400 MHz

Would there be any advantage in my current laptop to get a 2x8 2666 RAM over a 2x8 2400?

Just wondering but when you activate the Intel Speedboost function on your CPU, is that overclocking the RAM or not? If not how would I overclock my RAM

@OPCG_SpartanGolf6

If you plan to "Overclock" your "Memory" or your "CPU" then opt for the 2x8 2666

If you overclock your processor by increasing its base clock "BCLK", your RAM gets overclocked automatically.

If you do not plan on "Overclocking" then use the 2x8 2400

"Speedboost" is built into the CPU and does not change due to user adjustments.

Since Dell does not publish "BIOS Simulators" I cannot tell if your BIOS has the ability to overclock???

You could also search online for instructions if your BIOS does not have that option.

Do you think is worth overclocking when upgrading the RAM?

I also want to upgrade to 16 GBx2 on the same system but not sure which speed would be better and safer, 2400, 2666 or 3200?

Any benefits from overclocking or not worth it?

Some motherboard will test and adjust clocking speed to the RAM properties, but not the Latitude laptops. The clocking, designate the heartbeat that synchronizes all chips: CPU, RAM, Video, USB, HDD controller, etc... In all computers, the RAM technology is Dynamic which means that memorized bits, slowly decays unless an energy burst restores the 1`s.  The decay speed is represented by the CL value of the RAM chip.   If a RAM has a CL value of 9, it means it needs a faster refresh cycles which requires higher clock speed.  In fact, the lower the CL value, more limited is the ability of the RAM to operate in slower/older computers.

So... The clocking speed is controlled by the motherboard and may or may not be flexible.  The minimum and maximum clocking speed of RAM chips are operation tolerance of the chips.  1.faster RAM with high CL value will likely generate more memory errors.  2. faster RAM tolerant lower clock rate will work fine but won't improve general computer speed.  3.On a motherboard that can detect RAM speed, faster RAM will improve speed.
