Dell Inspiron 17 3793 memory upgrade fail

My Dell Inspiron 17 3793 came with an 1 x 8GB installed and I saw there was a spare slot so I ordered an extra 8GB DDR4 2666 SODIMM from Crucial and long story short my machine does not boot when the new memory is in place. The caps lock light stays solid but nothing else happens. I've tried swapping them around and Ive tried the Crucial memory on its own but the only way I can get the machine to boot is having the original memory by itself. Do we think this might be an issue with the new memory module or have a missed an obvious issue when upgrading?

Your computer doesn't support two 8GB memory ( One 8 GB per slot). Check the computer memory specification in link below:

Recommended crucial module with 16GB installed in addition to 8GB original module. Both work. So I have 24 GB total.

Can you get the machine to boot to BIOS by pressing F2 at startup? This would let you know if the machine can see the new memory stick.

I appreciate your answers but I tried the crucial sodimm on its own and it still didn't boot. I wonder if its a faulty module.

Even though 8GB per slot isn't listed in Dell supported configuration for Inspiron 3793, I though both 8GB modules would have still work in your computer. Since Crucial memory failed when used along, I believe it is faulty, ask for  a replacement. Now, I went to the Crucial website and notice maximum memory is 32gb for your computer.

Hi, all!

I have a similar problem.

I tried to install one & two 8GB DDR4 2666 CL 19 Kingston memory -- SODIMM Kingston ValueRAM [KVR26S19S8/8]

I tried to install one 16GB DDR 2666 CL19 HP memory module.

The results are the same. "The caps lock light stays solid but nothing else happens...".

@Chestertondo you found any solution?
