Does Dell G7 15 have issues regarding upgrading RAMs?

Have anyone tried upgrading Dell G7 15 to 32GB RAM? And if you did, which brand did you use? I saw on Reddit that some people having issue upgrading to 32GB RAM. Example:

1 2 3 4 5

Edit: changing titles to match the question and to catch Dell attention.

Hi all,

I wanted to share the official response I received today from the Dell engineering team via the support rep. I am pasting the exact reply so mind the spelling errors.

 "Greetings from Dell!

Thank you for wiring back to us. I hope you are doing well.

The G 7 gaming laptop has compatibility issue with XMP memory. The XMP memory can be overlocked, and Inspiron Gaming doesn't support XMP memory features. The memory which you are using any other memory, which doesn't have XMP memory in it.

Thank you for choosing Dell support."

There you go. I welcome any and all comments and opinions.

Had the same problem.  Updated my Bios to v1.5 and it is able to read my Ballistix Sport LT 2x 8GB 2666mhz SO DIMM cards.  My G7 7588 wouldnt boot/read them before I updated. I cant speak for other brands, but I am glad it is working for the cards I bought now.

Thank you for your message.  The system can have a maximum of 32 GB memory. 16GB in each memory slot.

This system model support two SODIMM slots with Dual channel DDR4 @2666 MHz & the maximum memory supported is 32 GB.

I saw that some people reporting that upgrading to 32GB didn't work as the system (updated BIOS to v1.2.1) didn't recognize their RAMs (those RAMs worked in other laptops). Those includes:
- Patriot DDR4 2x16gb 2666MHz CL18 1.2V PV432G266C8SK PE000491

- Ballistics Sport LT 2x16GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM 1.2V BLS16G4S26BFSD.16FBD

- Ballistics Sport 2x16GB DDR4-2400 1.2V BLS16G4S240FSD.16FBD

- HyperX 2x16GB DDR4-2666 CL15 260-pin SODIMM

- Patriot Memory Viper 4 Series 32GB (2 X 16GB) 2400MHz SODIMM DDR4 Kit

So is there are problems with the Dell G7 BIOS since it doesn't recognize 32GB RAM?

I am also in the same boat.   Paid the outrageous price of $400 for the 32gb of ram only for it to not work.    Very upset and have been going back and forth with Crucial (who have verified all good and its not bad ram) and Dell who said they were going to replace my whole laptop but after waiting over a week I was told no they will need to research more and find a fix.    About ready to return the laptop for a refund.   Tomorrow is my last chance to return it.

And none of them worked? Only recognized 1 stick but not 2 at the same time?

I've bought the G7 with 8Gb and then the Crucial recommend memory modules - Ballistix Sport LT 16GB Kit 2 x 8GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM - BLS8G4S26BFSD, informed by Crucial System Scanner.

My G7 doesn't recognize the 2 x 8Gb Ballistix, the only setup that works is 8Gb Ballistix in Slot 1 + 4Gb Hynix (original) in slot 2. I've already updated my G7 BIOS to version 1.2.1 (latest) but it still doesn't recognize 2 x 8Gb Ballistix.

I've checked that when using both Hynix modules, BIOS setup shows 8Gb @ 2667Mhz. When using 8Gb Ballistix + 4Gb Hynix, BIOS Setup shows 12Gb @ 2400Mhz.

As far as I've read MOST of 8/16Gb 2666Mhz modules from many vendors seem to behave the same way. DELL must release a fix, otherwise the image/perception for this model will ruin soon.

Were you able to upgrade to 32? Or did you return? My son is about to buy this laptop but wants 32G

Maybe you should wait until Dell releases a fix.

Count me in as well.  I just got the 8gb model last week and I can’t use my 16gb ballistix kit.  I have opened a support case with them and might return the laptop if they don’t provide a reasonable response. I’m told it has been escalated to the engineering team.

Worst part is, I really like the system very much.

So we need to buy the one that doesn't support XMP?

Found this on reddit

"I work for Crucial/Ballistix memory. Just wanted to chime and let everyone know that we had to turn off our Ballistix memory for this system. The i7 8750H in the G7 7588 should be able to handle performance XMP memory with the faster latency, but it clearly can not for some reason. This is why other people are having issues with HyperX and other brands of performance memory. My advice, if you want to max out the memory in the G7588 then simply stick to non-performance memory, like our Crucial CT2K16G4SFD8266 kit. This part should work fine in the system, as would I assume any other non-performance branded regular memory kit."

My Crucial 16gb upgrade kit arrived today and is working well with the G7.

I just went to Crucial's site and used the upgrade advisor. They have removed the performance XMP Ram from their suggestions.

Can anyone share the list of ram that not support XMP?
