How to install Ubuntu on my DELL Inspiron 5000?

I bought the DELL Inspiron 5000, where I tried to install Ubuntu several times. After researching, I checked that DELL does not provide the drivers of this Laptop for the free community. I was wondering if anyone knows how to install some linux in this laptop.

Dell does not support Ubuntu  canonical does.  5000 series is WAYYY too Generic. Canonical works closely with Dell to certify Ubuntu on a range of their hardware.Dell ONLY supports Ubuntu when it is Pre installed by Dell.

There is support for this but its not free. Many are unable to install ubuntu 14.04.3 because not able to restart for finishing installation, but ubuntu 12.04.5 works fine although while booting it will have a white screen with verticle lines.

18.04 is now the LTS version

If you’ve never used Linux before, for the most part you don’t install drivers like you do in Windows. There are some exceptions, but in general the kernel either supports your hardware or it doesn’t. Usually it does, but when it doesn’t, there isn’t usually a recourse. That’s why you don’t see drivers provided anywhere like you do for Windows.

But what specifically was going wrong when you tried to install Ubuntu? You didn’t provide anything about that important detail. Did you change your SATA Operation setting in the BIOS from the default RAID mode to AHCI? If not, you should, and note that despite the name of that setting, it affects both SATA and NVMe storage.

After your orientation, I can install Ubuntu 14.04. Versions 16.04 and 18.04 do not initialize the installation.

Pow cara, notícia muito boa pra mim. kkkkk... Você instalou a versão mais nova mesmo? Apesar que quando eu tentei instalar no meu, não estava inicializando a instalação.

I simply tried to change the initialization of UEFI or Legacy mode. I did not know that option you reported. I'll try to do it again with this information. I thank you so much for this tip.
