Inspiron 17 5000

Hi there everyone. I just need some advice. I purchased a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 non touch laptop. Will the Samsung EVO 970 work in this unit? Is there another SSD that would work as well for less money? Please advise and thanks in advance!!

No, it won't - all the 970s are M.2 (card style).  You need a 2.5" SATA SSD -- currently the Evo 860 and 860 Pro models if you want a Samsung drive, but you must use a 2.5" SATA drive - you can't fit an M.2 drive into this model - it won't take NVMe and I don't think you'll find many (if any) M.2 SATA to 2.5" SATA adapters that will fit notebook systems (and there's no real advantage anyway).

This model supports only one 2.5" drive - no M.2 support (that's part of what you get by stepping up to the 7000 series - an M.2 slot).

Yes. I'm aware it only has one HDD. This one coming to me has a 2 TB 5400 rpm hdd. I looked at the 7000 and I found that there was no CD/DVD drive which I frequently use on this Dell 17 I currently have. I want to replace it with an EVO 970 SSD.  I was just trying to make sure it would work with this unit. Thank you!

On the bootup screen (F2 to access) or on the base cover label.

Can't answer without the system model - 5779, 5793, etc.  On screen (F2 at powerup) or on the label on the system base cover.
