Inspiron headset jack

Question

I purchased a new Inspiron 15 5000 last month. The jack for the wired cellphone headset I use will not fit all the way into the laptop's headphone port. It worked perfectly with a similar Inspiron laptop I purchased last year for work. Is this is a problem with the construction of the laptop, or do I need an adaptor? Or a whole new headset?
