Media sound plays through laptop speaker even after plugging earphones on inspiron 7591.

I have been trying to fix this issue for some time. Whenever I plug my earphones to the 3.5 mm jack, the sound doesn't play through them. Instead, it plays through the laptop speakers. I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling. It plays through the earphone for a moment, but after removing the earphones and re-plugging the same problem persists. What is going wrong here?
