Ram upgrade inspiron 3558

I am trying to upgrade my laptop ram to 8GB, I am now having 4GB so I bought a new 4GB DDR3L 1600MHz ram and inserted on second slot..
But its not showing up neither in Bios nor system properties...
I changed the ram to another slot..RAM works, first slot works ..
Only second slot isn't working ...also RAM isn't fitting well inside second slot also...
What to do..?

Hi Cheenu1998,

Thanks for posting.  Apologies with your experience with the RAM for your machine.

Depending on where you purchased the RAM, you may wish to return it.

Here are the specifications for your Inspiron 3558:

RAM can be purchased from several places, Dell Spare Parts, Crucial, and Discount Electronics to name a few.
I understand that Crucial has a very good return policy.

Here is information from the Dell knowledge base you may find helpful:

Yeah..! After some hard work it worked very well..

I have watched some youtube videos where I got to do "A gentle push in pull out task for unused secondary slots".

I did same way..It suddenly slipped in smoothly..Now it's perfect..

Thank You.!!

"Only second slot isn't working ...also RAM isn't fitting well inside second slot also..."

Sounds like you've broken the memory slot - the only fix for this is a replacement system board.

you search for the ram in online market with your laptop configuration..

I think you must get same DDR3 1600MHz ram of 4GB size.

Those 4 numbers on the Hynix RAM are the manufacturing date. The number starting with HMT is the Hynix part number. A link to Amazon for that Hynix memory type follows. If you want to be sure you have a matched pair though, it is always best to buy a memory kit with 2 matched RAM modules.

For a kit Crucial offers this...

Just search with your laptop configuration and find the right ram module in crucial website...

Hi,

I am using Inspiron 3558 with 4GB ram already installed by-default. Where can I purchase it online from Dell/authorized website in India which should be compatible with it.

Also, what is the maximum capacity to which I can extend/upgrade it? Can I add 4 (default)+8 or 16 (i.e 12 or 20 GB) in total?

Thanks,
Hanee

For the maximum memory capacity, is it 8GB in total for the two slots or 16GB in total for two slots?

16GB is maximum memory supported for your system..but you can manage most of the tasks with 8 GB memory..

Keep in mind when purchasing memory for the Inspiron 3558 it requires Single Ranked memory, it will not accept dual ranked memory (i.e. it will beep as if no memory was installed).  Single Ranked DDR3L memory is hard to find, most of it is dual ranked (i.e. marked 2Rx8), single ranked is marked 1Rx8
