inspiron 13 7378 replacement battery

I purchased a new inspiron 13 about 1.5 yrs. ago. I'm trying to get a replacement battery but all that Dell customer service can offer are refurbished batteries. I find it hard to fathom that Dell cannot offer new batteries for a unit that cost a little more than one year ago almost 1600$.

Thanks a lot! As soon as the post office gets their act together, I'll order it. Luckily, my battery is still holding on its own for a couple of hours before I need to recharge.

I also have an Inspiron 13 7378. It's two years old. I am now getting this message, "Your battery has experienced a permanent failure and needs to be replaced." I called Dell, spoke with Kumar, and the only recommendation was for me to look for a battery locally. He said that Dell has no replacement battery for this laptop.

Why is Dell making and selling a laptop that has a vital part with a 2 year life and no support for this vital part? I'd understand if the battery was commonly available and could be purchased by authorized dealers who certify that the battery is something other than the 95% junk out there.

I find it unbelievable that does does not just sell OEM batteriesfor a computer less then two years old.  I found a bunch on Amazon for cheap and seems to work well and keep a charge.

I could not agree more!  Found a few options on Amazon.  I went with this one and seem to be working ok.

I am experiencing the same issue.  Dell does not carry a battery replacement for this model.  Not sure what they are thinking.  The computer is 1.5 years old and no battery parts????  Any recommendations on Dell compatible batteries based on your experience would be welcome.  Thanks,

I've recently started receiving the notification that my laptop battery has experienced a permanent failure and the battery needs to be replaced. I'm happy to learn that it is possible to purchase and replace the battery; I thought I was going to have to get rid of this laptop! I got it in December 2016 and it has worked great up until this notification.

So is this something I can potentially replace on my own (I personally have never taken apart a laptop, but am somewhat tech savvy). I found several YouTube videos that explain the replacement process. Or is it something I should take to a professional instead? I'll check out the options recommended to purchase from Amazon, thanks for your feedback!

Welcome to the Dell Community @CrystalCassese

You should have no problem replacing the battery yourself.

I don't recommend aftermarket laptop batteries. I've had even high quality ones start to swell after a year or so, they can damage your laptop and are a fire risk.  The parts people link in this thread has a real Dell battery, I'd go with that one.

Same thing happened to me with the Inspiron 13 7378. I've had it two years. The battery life has never been good. It was always the worst of any laptop I have used over the past 20+ years. In  fact, I've never had a battery problem with a laptop until this laptop. This is apparently a widespread problem that is well-known to Dell. Yet, the only Dell thing has to offer is a refurbished battery with a 90-day warranty for $109.99!! They do not sell a new battery for this computer, not even an over-priced one. Dell is losing this 30-year customer.

Yes, that is the most I got from the battery on my Inspiron 13 7378, even when it was brand new. It is apparently a widespread problem that is well-known to Dell. Yet, Dell does not sell a new replacement battery. They only offer a $109.99 refurbished battery with a 90-day warranty. A big FAIL on Dell's part.

@JOcean My inspiron 13 7378 calls for a battery of input 19.4V (as came with the new laptop) while the battery listed here is for 11.4V (Device Voltage). Are you sure it worked fine for you? Would I need to get a charger that corresponds to that?

Has anyone from the US tried the British replacement battery from the post above?  Or had any of the aftermarket batteries long enough to determine if they are good or not? I have the same issue, but feel somewhat fortunate that my original battery lasted a little longer.

Thanks!
