my inspiron 5402 sometimes does not start ramdomly
Hi there,
i have a strange behaviour with my brand new Inspiron 5402.
Sometimes it won't turn on.
I tried the steps on the knowledge pages (holding power on button during 20s, unplugging battery etc).
But it does not work, it's working for a certain time, but after some power on/off same behaviour again.
Even when i plug the power adapter it won't turn on.
The led on power adapter is green but
It stays unpowered no lights on key, no battery led, black screen.
What's going on here ?
I check the components with Support Advisor and all are ok.
Thanks

I see that you recently upgraded the memory to non Dell dimms. You'll need to reseat them and then see if you have the same issue.
If you still have the same issue after reseating, reinstall the original memory/configuration and see if you have the same issue and let us know. ^KC

Hi there,
what do you mean by reseat them ?
I tried with the default DELL SODIMM and it was the same behavior.
it seems that plugin the power adapter just a few seconds is able to "cancel" this behaviour for a small amount of time.
Thanks

Hi there,
As i mentionned in PM, this behaviour started after the bios update.
And i think i found something.
Yesterday in bios, i set under Power -> Enable advanced battery charge configuration to OFF and battery configuration to Custom with 50/90 as values (the default).
Since then, it seems that it start every time now.
Let's see how it reacts after a couple of days.

Hi there,
hmm it does not work again.
For 2 days, it worked and today i was unable to start the laptop.
Power adapter plugged no white led on laptop.
I don't know what's going on.
It seems that under a certain battery threshold, i'm not able to start.

Similar problem here, got mine back from warranty repair and no power led on unit ever no matter charging state. Manual clearly states the white and amber power states yet mine is never lit.

I have the same problem... My Inspiron 5402 won't start up randomly, and sometimes Windows Hello (facial and fingerprint recognition) won't work after it's turned on too. I'm sick of not getting work done because of this, and Dell doesn't seem to care about fixing it.
