hello

I have an inspiron n5010 with these hardware :

8GB ram

My old cpu is m370 i3 pga 988 socket and  hm57 chipset mainboard

GPU : ati radeon 5650 1GB

and  256 ssd

I have upgraded it before but it is still slow

can I upgrade my old Processor ?

If I can, which one is the best processor for gaming ?

can I use 940xm or 840qm or 740qm?

Thanks for helping me

Absolutely not for the XM CPUs -- they draw 55W vs 35 for your current CPU.  The system won't even boot with one aboard.

Even the QM CPUs draw 10W over the dual core units -- and I think you'll find these were offered only with dual core i7 CPUs.

You can probably use a 620m or 640m CPU -- but not the QM.  Even if the system boots with one, you've got a system with decade old voltage regulators -- you may push them over the edge to oblivion.

A better upgrade if you haven't already is a sold state drive.  If you must upgrade the CPU, stick to a dual core i7 as above.

Heat, power and BIOS recognition will all pose problems, yes.

Welcome to the Dell Community @kiarash36

    Intel Core i7-940XM:

It will fit but your chipset may not work with this type of CPU.

You do realize you will have to remove everything down to the system board to upgrade the CPU.

    thank you so much

I know my chipset is compatible with 940xm But will there be another problem? Such as heat or power?

Hello, I think that the i7-640M processor is suitable for this computer, because it is 2 cores and 4 lines, so it will be suitable on a motherboard in terms of the lack of problems in defining the processor, as well as the lack of heat and power consumption problems.
