IBM Netezza Integration
Has anyone implemented Isilon with IBM Netezza before? IHAC who is experiencing performance issues because Netezza is configured to talk single stream to Isilon. What is happening is that the Isilon is giving their server just one connection to Isilon although the application may have multiple request.
So, what IBM decided to do was to create multiple mounts to the share they want to access However, when they use the smartconnect zone name, they are only getting one node....
This is because the smartconnect is smart and realizes that it is the same server making a request So it connects them to the connection they already have.
In order to work around this and get multiple connections to multiple nodes IBM is having to force connections by IPs.
IBM obtained the IPs by doing nslookup and then are mounting to those IPs.
That does not sound like the right way of doing this, but what are the alternatives?

At least for 6.5 this is not the case. However if many requests are done within
a short period of time, two things can happen:
- SmartConnect makes all decisions based on the same load figures and
comes up with the same IP. The Round-Robin policy will avoid this.
- The client might cache DNS results and thus stick
to the same IP for the Isilon...

Hi varunmahli,
got some new inspiration recently...
What if the Netezza expects a full list of IP addresses as the answer to a single DNS query?
It could then try to balance the load across those server addresses by its own.
AFAIK SmartConnect cannot produce such a DNS reply, though.
