SMBv3 Support

Are there any updates on when Isilon will support SMBv3?

I was reading discussions regarding SMBv3 support.

I have a customer reading the following press release and expecting support:

http://www.emc.com/about/news/press/2012/20120611-01.htm

"EMC is committed to delivering broad storage platform support for Windows Server 2012, including SMB 3.0 and ODX across EMC VNX, EMC VMAX, EMC Isilon after Microsoft's general availability."

The statement is very vague, I know. Do we have a roadmap date at least?

It's great to see that you were able to find some useful information from the EMC |ONE Isilon Support forum!

Thank you for pointing out the announcement.

It's great to see the announcement committing to supporting that protocol.

If I apply my marketing material magnifying glass, the roadmap is entirely dependent on when Microsoft releases the code as GA.  Until this occurs, it's reasonable that EMC wouldn't commit to any timeline.

I haven't heard any rumors about the OneFS version beyond 7.0 so I couldn't begin to guess when this might be out.

Thank you for your time

SMB 3.0 now shipping in VNXe:

maybe it'll give them a chance to work out the kinks over there first.

c'mon, Isilon team!  SMB3, please!

didn't even know there was a distinction...corrected.  (to me VNX(e) has become shorthand for "the other EMC Storage".)

Hello forum members,

isilonv 6.5.4.1 B_6_5_4_59 ( release ) member Windows 2003 R2 AD domain.

Are we talking here about SMB support for Windows 2012 and Windows 8?

I cannot "net use \\Isilon-cluster\share" from Windows 2012 and Windows 8!

With Windows 2008 R2 no problem.

With regards,

Adri

HI Adri,

Windows 8 (and 2012) is not yet supported in your version.

Release notes for 7.0.1.2 mention support for Windows 8, I do not know which version of 6.5 would support it.

Probably 6.5.5.15? Please check the release notes.

Regards,

Robert

set this value in the registry as there is no support for SMB3 in the near future.

HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters

DWORD: RequireSecureNegotiate - Value 0

Adri,

6.5.5.15 specifically fixed a SMBv2 issue with Windows 8 and 2012 clients.  But, I just want to recommend that you upgrade away from 6.5.4.1 as that release is pretty long in the tooth (September of 2011).  There have been many SMB enhancements and improvements since that release.  6.5.5.16 just became the recommended release this week.  I'd look to move to that as soon as you can.

Thanks,
Bernie

Bernie and other forummembers,

We have upgraded our OneFS version to the recommended version 6.5.5.16 inclusive firmware upgrades.

All problems solved!

The trick with the registry modification worked but the better way is indeed upgrading.

Thank you all for the recommendations,

With regards,

Adri

Sorry to oepn an old message,

Is Isilon officially supporting SMB3?  We have some Win8 users that have access issues.  Win7 works fine.
