[22 weeks ago] Cypress confirmed Dell has an updated touchpad driver for the 15z...

So, you know we've all be stuck with this terrible driver for the XPS 15z touchpad, and Dell has been completely silent.

I just confirmed with Cypress that Dell has an updated driver for the 15z touchpad that works with Windows 8 and is supposed to fix all the current issues. This conversation happened about 2 weeks ago, and Dell had the driver before I contacted Cypress.

Hey Dell, RELEASE IT ALREADY!

*Update*
It's now at least 22 weeks since Dell was in possession of the updated driver

Try the driver from the L322x it has Windows 8.1 drivers released. Likely the same touchpad is utilised in both systems so the driver should work.

Edit it seems Dell have dropped all support for the XPS L511z for Windows 8.1 and for some reason support it on Windows 8 and not Windows 8 Service Pack 1 (Windows 8.1):

I'm not sure how they can support WIndows 8 but not its Service Pack

Oh, thank you for the reply natakuc4 and specially for the news in the edit, I wasn't even aware! I've already tried this solution but doesn't work properly(now I'm on Windows 8.1).

And then let's say frankly, this is the lower of the problems. The support to Windows 8 for the XPS 15z has never been decent. We can talk about the problems of sleep-mode, video, network etc...but overlook.

A support lasted a little more than a year! A shame for a laptop like this!

Time ago I even thought that the support for this machine was over(I wrote this post: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19527245/20456240.aspx#20456240); I can now say that I was right!

I don't think ieee488 understood the point you mentioned in that thread.

What is happening with the updated Cyprus driver from the L322x, does it install on your system. What is the issue(s)?

I made this on IdeaStorm today, I meant to make this earlier on but was too busy trying to find a Windows 8.1 .iso at the time of Windows 8.1's release. Please add your vote to it and leave a comment stating your experiences of the "partial" Windows 8 support:

Ok, I've promoted your idea! From what I understand not all computers will be abandoned; please specifies that speak in particular of the XPS 15z in the post.

My touchpad experience on Win8 with cypress driver was bad! Why should anything change on Win8.1? Please let me keep "clean" my new installation of Win8.1, I don't want to install it anymore  :(

However I think the post on ideastorm is useless, forgive me. If we could send an official letter to Dell to request an experience at least decent on Win8?

I will always remember that Win8 was released a year later that XPS 15z was put on the market, not five years after! Schocking!

It should be the XPS L511z. The Windows 8.1 driver is newer so may fix the issues the 8.0 driver had.

If the driver gives problems you can always uninstall it from the device manager which will restore the native Windows driver.

Ok, I've tried to install the L322x Cypress driver. The installation process seems to be successful until it asks to restart the system. When the restart is complete and the system is on, there is no trace of the newly driver!

Synthesis: I'm not able to install this driver.

And you?
