2504w 7345u inspiron 3800

The motherboard in my inspiron 3800 was dying (the keyboard had completely quit working and so had the second DIMM slot) so I installed a 2504W to replace the 783kv that was in it.  The Dell configuration tool says the system is now a Latitude CPt S500GT.  Is the system going to be compatible with the 7345u docking station that came with the Inspiron 3800?

Did you have a 500mhz cpu before?
Sounds like you replaced a (CPXJ/3800) motherboard with a CPXH/3700 motherboard.
You must force flash CP series Bios to use the Cdock.

The 2504w is supposed to be an Inspiron 3800/CPt S/CPxJ board.  From web surfing, it appeared to be the part number for a refurbed 783kv, at least before I bought one.

Yes I had a 500 MHz P3.  I moved it to the new board with no problems.  Diagnostics build 1102 says the max speed supported is 750, with the chip at 500 with a 66 external bus frequency.

Options appear to be:
1) Leave the system as is and don't use the port replicator
2)Leave the system as is connect the port replicator and see what happens
3) try to flash the bios with an Inspiron 3800 bios

This is the response I received from Dell Tech support

Dear Mr. Scott,

Thank you for contacting Dell Warranty Support.

It is advisable to use the identical port replicator with the system that was initially shipped with the system.

However, if you want to use it with another system motherboard then use it at your own risk.

Respectfully,
Davis

To use your old dock/APR you'll need to flash the new motherboard with the Inspiron 3800 Bios.

After creating a bootable DOS floppy and copying the BIOS file to it you can boot from it.

At the A: prompt type in i3800a17.exe /jabil
