5748 will not turn on without battery.

If I plug in the battery:

I do not have an original dell ac adapter. So when it boots the BIOS complains. After it boots in W10 it reports  adapter plugged in not charging.

If I unplug the adapter the screen dims, so I assume the adapter is working.

Without the battery it will not boot.

Bad battery charging board?

It was the adapter. The two I had were the right voltage and working fine, but were not Dell compatible. i.e they were missing the reply signal thru the third pin.

The new Dell adapter reports back and the BIOS shows "90W"

It now boots from just the adapter and charges both the old and new batteries.

Problem solved, I can now sell this thing and walk away.

Hi FEY42,

Thank you for writing to Dell Community Forum.

Please boot into BIOS and check the status of the battery and adapter when plugged-in.

Can you try to update the BIOS to the latest version from the Dell Support site?

Please click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your email address.

The BIOS is updated to A12, the latest.

It is running Windows 10

I would like to get it back to Windows 7 Pro, which it originally shipped with in Nov 2014.

The BIOS reports:

  Adapter: Unknown

Battery : This battery is preforming normally.

PM sent with requested details.
