Hi is there a difference between a black CPU socket and a white CPU socket on a XPS L502X 714WC mother board?

ianarlidge,
If a new CPU with the extra pin is released, then it will only be compatible with the black socket (AM3b). Why would one buy a white socket motherboard over the newer black socket? Most AMD motherboards now have the black socket along with a newer chipset.

I'm not sure the answer is germane to the L502x -- which is Intel-based, not AMD.

So some of the L502x 714wc boards are AMD and some are intel?

No. ALL L502x systems use Intel CPUs.
