'A network cable is unplugged'

Well, my mom was smart enough to click on a fake virus warning and got a virus in her computer. I was able to get rid of something, but now it says a network cable is unplugged, yet it shows that she is connected to our home router. Whenever she tried to go to something on internet explorer, it won't load, yet she said that she can still get her mail through outlook. Anyone know how to fix this?

Her laptop is an Inspiron 1520 running Windows XP. I have already tried downloading and installing all the network drivers from here and that still didn't help anything.

Try resetting the windows sockets:

Open a command window and type

netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the system and see if it works.

I tried that and no luck. Thanks though.

If you haven't tried a different cable, that would be next.  If that does nothing, back up the data on the system and recover it to as-shipped (CTRL-F11 once at the Dell screen).
