Is the system under warranty?
is the AC adapter recognized or showing "unknown"? F2 at powerup to check.

If defective, you replace it yourself. We need your Service Tag number to identify the correct battery part number. Click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell computer Service Tag number.

It could be a bunch of issues.
Could be the battery
Could be the AC Adapter
Could be the AC DC Jack
Could be mother board related.
Try useing a known good power adapter with the correct wattage match the one with the original power supply.
This will tell us if that part is broken.
If not it might be the jack adapter or the mother board.
Its useually not the battery which is bad. Its other factors telling the laptop to not charge the battery not the battery itself.
