I have some new, out of the box Dell Inspiron 3521 laptops with Win 7 Home premium os (64 bit), after installing Netmotion Netmobility VPN client, 64 bit, my sound is gone, speakers and headphones. Windows will not shutdown clean now, hangs at "Program needs to close: explorer.exe, waiting for 'Playing logoff sound'". All hardware is 'optimal', Dell diags are clean. I think Netmotion is stepping on the audio somehow. Any suggestions/help will be appreciated.

I bought a new latitude machine. Dell Latitude 15 series 5000. E5540 model This machine is the latest Dell machine windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
I installed the NetMotion Mobility XE VPN client 9.5 version. And I am having the same issue as you.
- The audio is gone
- The Internet explorer does not respond.
- The media player does not work.
- The machine does not shut down. It is all same message as you mentioned above.
- Event viewer shows all errors
Unfortunately no one knows why this happens. If you uninstall this client everything works normal. My office uses Netmotion VPN and this machine is useless without VPN working on it.
Any help would be great
Friend, you're a genius, worked like a charm. I had un-installed the original driver before but didn't delete it so it re-installed the same driver. I have a call into my Dell rep and will make sure she understands that they have a problem. I had suspected the Dell driver but had not found a way to prove it until now.
Thanks a million.

I got a workaround.
The audio driver in Dell machine may have issue with Netmotion mobility XE 9.5 version. First make sure that you have right VPN client to be installed – i.e. Windows 7 (enterprise / professional etc.)
Remove the Audio driver which came with machine and Install the Windows generic audio driver.
Steps:
Go to Device Manager – Select sound video and game controller - Uninstall the driver (delete option) – restart the machine - windows would self-install its generic audio driver on reboot.
My computer problem looks to be resolved. Audio started working. No issue while windows shutdown. No issue with IE explorer.
