BIOS update A09 failed for my XPS 1645

Tried installing latest BIOS update last night, but the update failed at block 50 (of 82).

Machine locked up completely. Restarting machine resulted in blank screen.

Rang support this morning, eventually convincing the guy that no amount of keyboard combinations would work (as the BIOS would need to be functioning for that!), so waiting on an engineer to call me back.

A bit annoyed - pretty sure this is the first time I've ever had a firmware upgrade go bad (and I've done quite a few)

Some claim to have been able to recover by removing the main and cmos batteries, holding down the power button for 30 seconds, and the replacing the batteries. The CMOS battery is on the system board, so it's not simple

Thanks for the suggestion. The Dell technician is due to turn up today to fix the problem, so I'll be interested to see what approach he/she takes.

Happy to report laptop is working again.

Technician replaced motherboard, and I'm going to leave the BIOS alone for a while now :-)
