Battery cannot be identified
the last few times that i have turned on my Inspiron 1501 the first thing that comes on screen is a message saying:
Warning: the battery cannot be identified
this system will be unable to charge this battery
press any key to continue
press 2 times to enter setup
press and any key to enter boot menu
help!

Try a new battery first - if that doesn't fix the problem, then the mainboard is faulty and will need to be replaced.

While the computer is on, remove the battery for a minute, then replace it. This has worked for some.

There is a BIOS flash update from Dell to fix this but I do not recommend it as that's got me into a bit of a pickle (I'm unable to boot at all now).
