Brightness Control Inspiron 3521

Hey,

I have updated my OS to Windows 7 and i am unable to change my screen brightness levels and have the following issues with it

  1. The F4 and F5 only decreases brightness levels by one blip/level.So my brightness is almost full all the time. This means that the keys of F4 and F5 are working but not properly
  2. The Power tab in control panel shows no brightness level
  3. I tried installed all recommended drivers.
  4. This issue doesn't arise if i work in Linux OS

Please suggest a suitable solution

Hi kunal_p,

I am sorry about the situation; please update BIOS and quickset driver using the link below.

http://dell.to/195pPA0 BIOS

Connect the Ac Adapter while updating the BIOS and do not use the system until it restarts after the update

To update the BIOS please refer to the video in the link below.

Use the link below to update the quickset driver.

Once the quickset driver is updated please check if the brightness key (F4 and F5) works

Hi kunal_p,

Please let me know if you are having this issue right after installing the windows 7 in the system? also run a full windows update in the system and check if helps.

Hi kunal_p,

I am sorry for the delayed response; please update the video driver using the link below.

In this link punch in the system service tag or express service code, select the appropriate operating system, under the video category select the latest video driver and install it. once the driver is installed check if the issue persists.

Nope, this doesn't work.

Even before installing this driver. The brightness button changes the blips from 0 to max, which doesn't use to change earlier but the brightness doesn't change.

Hi kunal_p,

Thanks for the update, please check if the brightness is reducing using the video card application. If your system has the NVidia card, Use NVIdia control panel to reduce the brightness. If your system has ATI card please use the catalyst control center to reduce the brightness.

Hello,

No, the brightness doesnt change using Catalyst Centre.I checked all options like Video-->Color-->changed the brightness and brightness of screen is not affected.I dont think this is  OS issue and it seems a graphics card issue.

Hi kunal_p,

I understand your opinion.

If you have already updated BIOS, quickset and video drivers as suggested earlier, I recommend you to back up the data and restore the system to the factory installed state. This will rule out software issue. If the issue persists then you may consider getting the system serviced

Please find the link below for instruction to restore the system to the factory installed state (Windows 7):
