CPU XD Support???

I have had a direct conflict between Visual IP InSight 5.5 and our brand new Dell latitude D610 laptop.

The driver that program installs in called IPVNmon.sys

with CPU XD Support on it causes a BSOD very soon after the XP logo splash screen on startup.

If I disable CPU XD Support from the BIOS the laptop boots up fine.

could someone please discribe to me in lame-man's terms what this does for my report.

CPU XD Support is a new feature for Intel dual core processors to keep older programs, such as16 bit programs, from causing buffer overruns in the processor. I would have to see which proc your system had to see if it is a dual or single core. The newest BIOS for that system does have the CPU XD feature written into it, but you may not have a dual core proc.

To break it down, you really do not need this feature to be enabled. It is more of a proactive measure for compatibilty issues that may come from installing old programs. If you wish to have it enabled, then you need to upgrade your program to the latest version. If there is no new version, just keep it disabled.

Hope this helps.
