Can I just remove Display from Laptop and run with separate Monitor?

I have a 700m laptop which has a dead display.  From the Dell manual it looks like I can physically remove the display and will loose the antenna and built-in speakers in the process.

But my question is, would it still work plugged into a separate monitor without any problems with these items not connected?  It would give me (effectively) a very small "desktop" machine.
