Cannot install Windows 7 32bit on Dell Latitude 14 Rugged - 5414
We bought this laptop for PLC software. I put in a new hard drive and when trying to install Windows 7 32bit OEM software, it comes up with this message:
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver ...,please insert it now."
We did purchase two Dell Latitude 14 Rugged 5404 laptops around 9 months ago with Windows 7 32bit from Dell but Windows 7 32 bit isn't being sold anymore.
Please advise.
Thanks

You'll need to build yourself a new Windows 7 install media set - this is a Skylake system, which doesn't have native support for the Windows 7 installer. You'll find the complete instructions below.
Also note that this is the very last system on which you'll be able to install WIndows 7 at all - the current and all future generations of Intel CPUs starting with Kaby Lake are Windows 10 only - so you'll soon face a choice between buying older hardware for Windows 7 or new hardware with Windows 10.
The following procedure is tedious but is necessary to build a Windows 7 installer that will work with your Skylake system.

You're going to need to get those for 32-bit Windows.

In step 6 in the preparation section it says, "Copy all files and folders from your Windows 7 DVD oder Image to C:\temp\src"
Did they misspell the word oder? Or is the sentence not correct?
By chance do you know what the correct spelling is or the correct sentence?

I think that should be "older" or "original". Copy the files from the original 7 install DVD.

Thanks for the help. I have few more questions if that's ok?
In the section, "Modify the Images", there are these commands:
dism /Image:C:\temp\mount /Add-Driver /Driver:c:\temp\drivers /Recurse
dism /Unmount-Wim /MountDir:C:\temp\mount /Commit
dism /Mount-Wim /WimFile:c:\temp\src\sources\boot.wim /Index:2 /MountDir:c:\temp\mount
dism /Image:C:\temp\mount /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\temp\hotfix
dism /Image:C:\temp\mount /Add-Driver /Driver:c:\temp\drivers /Recurse
The first command and last command are the same. Do you I need to do the last one again?

I would follow the exact procedure -- all the steps are needed.

You won't have that - you cannot boot 32-bit Windows in UEFI mode. You must boot the system in legacy mode - UEFI/GPT requires 64-bit Windows.

Thanks, everything is almost done. My last question is this. In the section for "Creating Installation Media", I don't have a efisys.bin file in c:\temp\src\efi\microsoft\boot\
I search my computer and I can't find the file anywhere.

Rufus is one way to do it easily. There are others as well.

So I can use any program to make the iso? And do I make the iso from all the folders that I had to create preparation section?

I got everything done. The image booted but for over two hours it said, "Setup is starting". Would you have any tips by chance?
Thank for your help.

Is the system set with the boot device in AHCI mode or RAID mode?
