Connect Inspiron 1318 to Phillips LCD TV??

I am trying to connect my Inspiron 1318 to my Phillips LCD TV.

My laptop has a VGA port. My TV has component ports, HDMI ports, and an S-Video port. I am pretty techno-illiterate..soo I have no idea how to get this to work, including TV and laptop settings I need.

I bought a VGA/RCA cable [http://www.buy.com/prod/1-5m-vga-to-3-rca-cable-adapter-for-tv-hdtv-laptop-pc/q/loc/101/213271855.html] and couldn't get it to work. I know I needed an audio jack too but I couldn't even get a picture on my TV.

Can someone help me out?

that cable isn't going to do it for you EVER

you need to spend more $$ and buy one of these --->   http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&Description=pc%20to%20tv%20converter&bop=And&Order=RATING&PageSize=20

You need to match ports. If vga is your only port, you need a tv with a vga input. Many new LCD tv's have that now called a PC Input.  If you have no other way to connect, you cannot connect. Converter cables don't work. Don't tear your hair out over this. It's not worth it. Here is the note from that cable--

This cable doesn't support a computer monitor video port, or Y, Cr, Cb Video. Your video card should provide a Y / Pb / Pr Component Video Signal from the HD 15 video ports to use this cable
