DVD

 My Dell Inspiron 1720 does not recognise blank dvd's when I put them in.What could be the problem?

Could be many problems, especially with your problem description. 

First thing, uninstall the drive in the Device Manager, then restart the PC and the drive will be detected and reinstalled (refreshed).  If this does not fix it, repost in the Disk Drive section of the forum (the forum section for CD/DVD drive problems).  If you have to repost, along with the PC Model Number include the Operating System and the model number of the CD/DVD drive. 

To access the Device Manager, hold the Windows Key Down and Press the Pause/Break Key.  Depending on your OS the Device Manager can be accessed from the Panel that comes up.  In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the Drive and then LEFT click Uninstall.  Restart the PC.
