Defect network mini-card?

Inspiron E1405 , Windows XP.
I'm suspecting I have a defect network mini-card(Dell wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-card).
First, I was not able  to connect to the available networks anymore even though they showed up, now the light does not illuminate anymore on the keyboards and wireless status lights, and the bars don't show up anymore on the quicklaunch bar. Harwaretests were inconclusive.
Is this assumption correct and can I just buy a new one off the internet and connect it myself, according to the manual?

Yes, connecting a mini-card isn't hard. What can be a pain is what disassembly is required to get to the mini-card itself.

Try reseating your wireless card. FN F2 enables and disables your wireless card.
