Dell 1749: Five "bongs" when booting/POST
My Dell 1749 gives me five "bongs" when POSTing with a black screen then repeats after a few seconds. The lights on the media control panel are solidly lit also. Won't go any further. Can anyone tell me which part of my hardware is wonky?
Thanks in advance,
Dan in ABQ

First thing to change: the CMOS battery:
www.notebookparts.com/.../
Service manua;"
downloads.dell.com/.../studio-1749_service manual_en-us.pdf
If that doesn't solve the problem, the clock chip is bad and the mainboard will need replacement.

Thanks, it has a fairly new CMOS battery and I've already looked in the service manual. I know the number of bongs used to tell you which component was bad. Just hoping someone might know them for this model.

Five beeps is either the CMOS battery or the realtime clock chip.
