Dell Backup and Recovery Problem

Dell Latitude E6520
Windows 7 Professional SP1

I am trying to create a Windows recovery disc using the Dell Backup and Recovery Tool. I was able to create the  Dell Recovery Tools set of discs, but when attempting to create the Windows disc, it keeps telling me to 'Place a blank optical media in the drive selected.' I have tried multiple discs with no success. I have also tried versions A01 and A02 with the same failed results. I have rebooted the system various times. No matter what I try, it does not recognize a blank DVD in the drive. There are no firmware updates for the drive (MATSHITA UJ8A2). Any ideas? TIA

I am having the EXACT same issue with my new Vostro 3550 although it is happening for the recovery disc; the Backup disks worked fine. 'Place a blank optical media in the drive selected.' but there is already a disk in the DVD player. I've tried several different disks including a CD-RW. Does anyone have an answer? Dell? Anyone?

I had the same problem on a Dell T7500 viz -

"Place a blank optical media in the drive selected"

I tried various discs, CD-R, DVD-RW etc, formatted and unformatted.

The key for me was the word "BLANK"  in the message.

My solution -

Load a formatted DVD-RW in the drive.

Load Windows Explorer

Right-click on the DVD Drive

Click "Erase this disc"

Load Dell Recovery Manager

The program now recognizes the disc and writes a Recovery Disc.

(Presumably the Dell Recovery Manager requires a completely empty disc)

It requires a dual layer DVD.
