Dell E7240 keyboard not working
hi
i purchased a used dell E7240 and it was grade c so some issues. the laptop works perfectly well apart from the keyboard. it was a backlit. i replaced with a non backlit and now the keyboard and touchpad do not work. updated bios to latest and also windows 10 etc but nothing.
i downloaded the drivers on the dell website but they fail immediately.
it seems to be a known problem, DELL, how do i fix it, do i need to buy a new backlit keyboard?
i will try downgrading the bios next.

ianh21,
Check your connections for the keyboard. If the previous keyboard was not working on the computer it could be the connection to the motherboard. Return the other one you purchased and get another backlit keyboard.

the old keyboard didn't work.
the mousepad is now working since i ran dell system diagnosis but no joy with the keyboard.
under device manager it shows as a standard ps2 keyboard so it must detect it.

ianh21,
Yes, it very could be the motherboard connection. Can you plug an external keyboard in the computer? If so, run the diags by following the information below.
The Enhanced Pre-boot System Assessment window is displayed, listing all devices detected in the computer. The diagnostics starts running the tests on all the detected devices.

hi
ok, touchpad works, replacement brand new backlit keyboard doesn't work still.
ran diagnostics and this shows:
Cables - various tests
test result: fail
Error code: 2000-0415
Validation: 91253
Msg: Cables - check the following cable, jumper, connection or sensor: Keyboard
ended.
what exactly is wrong then? motherboard connection?
