Dell Inspiron 1012 Mini - 2GB Ram Upgrade Problem

So... I'm fairly familiar with ram upgrades, but have never encountered a problem like this.

I'm attempting to update my Dell 1012 to 2GB of ram; I'm running Windows 7 Starter and my ram was purchased off of Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CPU3C8/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

The computer runs fine on the old ram, but when I replace it with the 2GB, boots through the initial Windows loading screen, and where I would normally enter my password, the screen just flashes an incoherent scrolling screen of multicolors that never turns into a log in screen.  My system bios are up to date and the computer is just a little over a year old.  The Amazon page says this is ram specifically for a 1012... Not sure what to do?   Any help would be appreciated...  Thanks!

Definitely a strange reaction to new ram.

If your original ram is still working after you swap it back in, but the new ram does not work, then you should contact amazon for replacement ram. It is possible that the stick of ram you received is defective and can cause damage to your system. I would not recommend any further use of the ram and would absolutely recommend contacting amazon back for a replacement.

Amazon is great about sending replacements, and typically you can go under your orders on their site and request a replacement before even sending back the first stick you bought.

I hope it gets to working for you.

you need only DDR2 SODIMM RAM only, what you have purchased seems to be different. please check more on http://laptopmag.com/advice/how-to/dell-mini-ram.aspx i am about to go for replacement for my dell mini 1012. and my IT friend advised above. thanks
