Hello Kim. Here are a couple of things you could try.

> Use Windows System Restore. (Type system restore into the Windows search box.) Select a restore point dated earlier than when the issue began

> Download and install the audio driver from your laptop's support page. If you would like links and directions for doing that, you need to provide the full model name of the laptop.

There were three 14z models: 1470 (2009), N411z (2011), and 5423 (2012).

Your laptop uses either a realtek, IDT, or Conexant audio driver depending on the specific model.

Also you should provide the name of the version of Windows you are using.

If installing the audio driver does not help -- or if the driver will not install -- then there could be a hardware failure.

1) Open Control Panel from the Start Menu
2) Open Device Manager
3) Scroll down and double-click on Sound, video and game controllers
4) Double-click Realtek High Definition Audio
5) Click Driver tab
6) Click Disable
7) Then click Enable

I just had the same problem and this worked perfectly.

if that wont solve your problem then try the link given below
