Dell Inspiron 14z three buttons doesn't work.

Hello everyone,

I'm using a 14z Inspiron Ultrabook with Windows 8, and I want to mention that the three buttons on the right hand corner doesn't work anymore. I use the button with the two gears to mess with my settings, and the one with a "W" shape to change the sound settings.

I was wondering if there's a way to fix it?

Hi buggie2010,

You try updating the quickset application in the system and check if the three buttons are working fine.

Please punch in the system service tag or express service code and select the application category and install the quick set application.

Please do reply for further assistance.

Thanks! I've already installed the quickset application, but it's asking me to choose an option between repair, modify, or uninstall. My guess is to choose repair, correct?

I tried this as well, but unfortunately it came out different. Here take a look:

The Customized by Dell Inc. isn't there.

buggie2010,

Press the Windows key and the x keys at the same time. It should bring up the Windows Mobility Center.

Look at Function Key Row and make sure it's set for Multimedia Key

On the Dell QuickSet, should I choose modify or repair?

buggie2010,

Download and install in order.

Dell Device

Intel HM75 Express Chipset Family

Dell QuickSet

What happens? Do you see the settigs in the Windows Mobility Center? Press the Windows and x keys at the same time, Mobility Center. Can you see the function key row settings?

buggie2010,

Try repair first. If that doesn't show, then try modify.

Okay, I've installed those in order, but it seems like nothing happened. I went to the mobility center to check to see if the function key row settings are back, but it is still the same as before.

buggie2010,

Try this version of Dell QuickSet. You may have to install it in the Windows 7 Compatibility mode

Sorry for the silly question, but how do you run it in Windows 7 Compatibility mode? My laptop is running in Windows 8, and I don't know much about computers and such.

Hello again. I just want to say the problem is now fixed! I looked at the Compatibility guidelines and went to change the compatibility mode on the Quickset driver, but instead I clicked on Run Compatibility Troubleshooter and it helped solved the problem. I finally have the Dell settings back.

Anyways, I want to thank you for helping me! You've been a great help! :emotion-2:
